Dina Crowl, Superintendent of CREC Schools, is a visionary educator dedicated to the success of all students. With over 30 years of experience in public education, she has a long history of engaging state and school leaders in high level conversations regarding school management, instructional leadership, and overall school improvement, and is instrumental in creating the plans that result in school and district transformation. Dina has committed her work to providing students in the Hartford region with the highest quality educational opportunities available in the state of Connecticut.
In her role as the superintendent, she has lead the CREC magnet district in building a strong culture committed to excellence. Dina’s leadership style is characterized by her innovation, integrity, and intense pursuit of high intellectual performance for both students and teachers. She is results-driven and encourages each member of the CREC family to commit to the vision of CREC: every student can and shall learn at high levels. Her coordinated approach to district management has enabled schools to implement improved frameworks for rigorous curriculum, instruction, assessment, coordinated professional development, and effective models for teacher development, growth and support.
Dina joined CREC in early 2006 as a Senior Education Specialist, where she was responsible for developing meaningful professional development opportunities for educators in and around the CREC region. Shortly after she joined CREC’s Institute of Teaching and Learning, she became the division’s director. As Director, her management, leadership, and supervision allowed the Institute to flourish, furthering its goals of increasing professional development offerings and support for all schools in the CREC region. She also worked closely with the Magnet School Division to develop and implement unique and innovative curriculum in its schools.
In 2008, Dina assumed a concurrent leadership role, becoming Assistant Superintendent for CREC Magnet Schools. In 2012, Dina assumed the role of Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning full time to aid the magnet division in its significant student growth and expansion of the school portfolio. In 2013, Dina became the Superintendent of CREC Schools.
As the Superintendent of Schools, Dina is responsible for simultaneously maintaining CREC’s Magnet Schools long standing history of success while also cultivating new and innovative ideas to prepare students for 21st Century Learning. In her time as superintendent, the district has seen significant growth and many successes in student achievement.
Prior to her time at CREC, Dina had a long history with Hartford Public Schools as a teacher, reading consultant, and the Director of the Early Childhood, PreK-8 Language Arts, and K-12 Professional Development programs. In addition to her numerous professional certifications, Dina holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from Eastern Connecticut State University, a Master of Science degree in Reading Education from Central Connecticut State University, and a Sixth Year Certificate from Sacred Heart University.
